Sports News Recruiting housekeeping item: IU basketball out of running for 2024 5-star Asa Newell

Indiana has a chance to land multiple elite Montverde Academy talents in the class of 2024.

But one of them will not be 5-star forward Asa Newell.

Newell announced a final four of Alabama, Georgia, Texas and Gonzaga on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-9 Newell visited Indiana twice in 2022 but did not make a return visit, signaling he was likely to go elsewhere.

Indiana’s options are dwindling in the senior class, but the Hoosiers are still after a main group that includes Liam McNeeley, Derik Queen, Boogie Fland, Curtis Givens and Annor Boateng.  Indiana has visited all but Boateng in the last week, and they’ll see him on campus Sept. 29.
